Sleep-On-The-Go with Sleep Pods at Airports

Airport Sleep Pods - in Sleep-On-The-Go with Sleep Pods at Airports - by Simply Good Sleep

If you’ve had to spend a long time at an airport then you know how uncomfortable they can be. It’s almost impossible to have a nap out in the open in an airport. Even if you could somehow get to sleep on a bench, there’s still the risk that someone will steal your belongings or you’ll miss your flight. The good news is that more airports around the world are starting to install sleep pods. These sleep pods at airports give passengers the chance to relax and catch a few zzz’s while they wait to catch their next flight due to early morning flights, missed flights, flight delays or cancellations, or long layovers.

Whether these rooms are called airport sleep pods, capsules, or cubes, they all provide a safe spot to sleep in privacy and dignity. So there’s no need to spread yourself across a bench or some chairs and become an amusing sideshow for passersby. These sleep pods are generally found past airport security and they can be booked by the hour or for a full night.

Sleep Pod Providers and Prices

You’ve got some options when it comes to size, amenities, and – of course – price. Some of them even have big high definition TVs and feel more like a hotel room than anything else. Most of the capsules found in airports are from chain providers, such as YotelAir, one of the major players in the capsule hotel industry.

Some airport sleep pods or capsules are self-service while others come with staff and even wake up calls. Of course, the more Spartan the sleeping capsule or pod, the cheaper it is. Airport sleep pods/capsules can cost anywhere between $15 per hour to $50+ per hour. Some airports also offer fixed nightly rates, such as the 9Hours capsule hotel at Narita airport.

Some sleeping pods can be booked online via booking sites, or directly from the sleep pod company.  Keep in mind that conditions may apply when booking a sleep pod or capsule, such as minimum or maximum booking time, next flight needing to depart from the terminal that the sleep pod accommodations are located in, and so on..

Great post! I myself stayed at an airport sleep pod. A year ago, I had a long 18 hour layover at Narita Airport. I stayed at 9h capsule hotel inside the airport, Teminal 2. It was safe, accessible, and affordable. It had complete amenities: free wifi, locker, soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, sleepwear, slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, and hairdryer. There were many restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Comfortable pods, clean facilities, and friendly staff. Had a great sleep. Recommend to anyone traveling to Japan.

    • Thank you for sharing your sleep-on-the-go experience with sleep pods at Narita airport. Sounds like you had a pleasant, enjoyable stay and sleep! Located right inside the airport, no need to rush for the plane!

Sleep pods at airports are a brilliant idea! Do they have air running in them, like AC? I wonder. I love this idea so much. I hope LAX will offer sleep pods soon.

    • Napcabs in Munich Airport, Germany, for example, have air conditioning, in addition to a bed, desk, USB charging station, and Internet access. It’s a good idea to call the sleep pod company ahead to confirm amenities.

More and more airports around the world are starting to embrace the sleeping pod concept. Sleep pods are becoming increasingly common at airports. LAX airport may be next! Stay tuned for updates!
